 Directions
Stables Cottage is situated in the tiny hamlet of Wythop Mill (one of Alfred Wainwright's favourite places) between Keswick and Cockermouth.

After the town of Keswick about 6 miles you will see signs for Wythop Mill on the left. Stay on the A66 until you see the sign again & for Embleton on the right. Turn left up the lane for about 1/2 mile you will see the phone box on the right, enter & park up outside Stables Cottage.

 Things to do...
The Pheasant Inn is about a mile towards Keswick, while the Wheatsheaf is over the A66 in Embleton as well as The Derwent Lodge Hotel. All do good food, in order of cost Pheasant; Derwent & Wheatsheaf does good old pub grub! Keswick has a Booths which is the 'local' supermarket... try the 'Willows" bottled water it has tremendous healing powers & cures most illness! Keswick is full of mountaineers, all dressed to climb Mount Everest & getting in your way. Cockermouth is a great place to eat, loads of restaurants, pub of the year - 'The Dripping Tap' & a Sainsburys for food etc. Wordsworth birthplace is a good place to visit or the Jennings brewery does a really good tour.

We get lots of wildlife nearby - Deer, Green Woodpeckers, Osprey, Red Squirrels - make sure you bring your Binoculars!
